How to do the straight arm pulldown

  1. 1

Stand facing a high cable with a straight bar or rope, hands shoulder width apart. Hinge slightly at the hips with a flat back and arms straight in front of you.

  2. 2

Keeping your arms nearly straight, sweep the bar down in an arc to your thighs, squeezing your lats. Let it rise slowly back to shoulder height.

  3. 3

Breathe out as you pull down and in as you return, about three seconds up. Keep a soft bend in your elbows.

Form tip: Do not bend your elbows to push down; keep the movement coming from your lats and keep your core braced.
