What is Drop set?
A drop set is a set taken close to fatigue, after which you lower the weight and keep going without resting.
Also called: descending set, strip set.
In a drop set, you lift a weight until it gets hard, quickly reduce the load, and continue for more reps with no real rest. You can drop the weight once or several times. It is a way to extend a set past the point where the first weight became too heavy.
Because it is very tiring, it is usually used at the end of a workout on a safe exercise like leg extensions or cable curls. For example, do 10 reps with 20 kg, drop to 15 kg for a few more, then 10 kg. Beginners should build basics first and use drop sets sparingly.
