What is Range of motion?
Range of motion is how far a joint and muscle can move through an exercise, from start to finish.
Also called: ROM, full range, joint mobility range.
Range of motion, or ROM, is the distance a joint travels during a movement. In a squat, for example, it is how deep you go. A full range of motion means you move through the whole controlled path of the exercise that suits your body.
Using a fuller range, with a weight you can control, usually trains the muscle through more of its length. For example, lowering a push-up until your chest is close to the floor uses more range than a half rep. Never force a position that hurts, and choose a depth that feels safe for you.
