How to do the pilates

  1. 1

Lie on a mat with your knees bent and feet flat, and find a neutral spine with your lower back lightly off the floor. Take a deep breath in to prepare.

  2. 2

Move through slow, controlled exercises such as the hundred, roll-up, single leg stretch and leg circles. Draw your belly button in toward your spine and move from the centre of your body.

  3. 3

Breathe in through your nose to prepare and out through your mouth as you work, keeping every move slow. Aim for 20 to 30 minutes of quality movement and rest whenever your form slips.

Form tip: Quality over quantity. Keep your neck relaxed and your lower back from arching, and stop a move if you feel strain in your neck or back.
