What is Cool-down?

A cool-down is a few minutes of light movement and gentle stretching after training to help your body settle back to normal.

Also called: cool down, cooldown, post-workout stretch.

A cool-down is the easy part at the end of your workout. Instead of stopping suddenly, you slow down gradually so your heart rate and breathing return toward normal. It often includes slow walking and gentle stretching. Think of it as a gentle landing after the effort of your session.

It is not a magic fix, but many people find it relaxing and a good habit to build. For example, after a gym session you might walk slowly on the treadmill for five minutes and then stretch your thighs, chest and shoulders for about 20 to 30 seconds each. Avoid pushing into pain while stretching.
