How to do the forward lunge

  1. 1

Stand tall with feet hip-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand at your sides. Keep your shoulders back and your core braced.

  2. 2

Step forward with one leg and lower until both knees reach about 90 degrees. Push through your front foot to return to the starting position.

  3. 3

Lower over 2 seconds, breathing in as you step and out as you rise. Keep your torso upright and the front knee over your ankle.

Form tip: Do not let your front knee drift past your toes or cave inward; alternate legs or finish one side first.
