How to do the hip flexor stretch
- 1
Kneel on one knee on a mat or folded towel, with your other foot flat on the floor in front, knee bent at about 90 degrees. Keep your torso tall.
- 2
Tuck your tailbone under and squeeze the glute of the kneeling leg, then shift your hips gently forward until you feel a stretch along the front of that hip.
- 3
Hold for 30 to 45 seconds, breathing slowly, then switch sides. Raise the arm on the kneeling side overhead to deepen the stretch.
Form tip: Do not arch your lower back to get more depth. Keep your ribs down and your front knee over your ankle.
