How to do the leaning lateral raise (dumbbell)
- 1
Hold a dumbbell in one hand and grab a rack or upright with the other. Lean your body away from the support at a slight angle, with the dumbbell hanging at your side.
- 2
Raise the dumbbell out to the side until it reaches shoulder height, leading with your elbow. Keep a soft bend in your elbow.
- 3
Lower slowly and feel the stretch in your side delt at the bottom. Breathe out as you lift and in as you lower. Complete your reps, then switch arms.
Form tip: Keep the lean the same on every rep; do not use your hips to throw the weight up, and choose a lighter dumbbell.
