How to do the front raise (plate)

  1. 1

Stand tall holding a weight plate at the 9 and 3 o'clock positions in front of your thighs, with arms nearly straight. Brace your core and keep your knees soft.

  2. 2

Raise the plate in a smooth arc to eye level, keeping your arms almost straight. Pause briefly at the top.

  3. 3

Lower the plate slowly back to your thighs. Breathe out as you lift and in as you lower.

Form tip: Do not rock or lean back to get the plate up; if your lower back arches, switch to a lighter plate.
