How to do the plank (weighted)

  1. 1

Get into a forearm plank with elbows under your shoulders, and have a partner place a weight plate flat on your upper back.

  2. 2

Squeeze your glutes and brace your abs so your body stays in a straight line from head to heels under the load.

  3. 3

Hold for 20 to 45 seconds, breathing slowly. Have your partner remove the plate before you lower your knees.

Form tip: Start with a light plate; drop it if your hips sag or your lower back starts to ache.
